Help us celebrate National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day on Monday, March 25! One of the simplest ways to show your support this month is to wear a green ribbon in honor of CP awareness. If possible, we encourage you to go a step further and attend a CP awareness event within your community to bring attention to this important cause.
Communities around the United States have scheduled events in honor of National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. Bay City, TX is hosting J.R.’s Walkathon for Cerebral Palsy Awareness on March 23. LINCPoint at United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham is holding a free event on March 26 featuring Stephen Dantzig, PsyD, author of Get Up, Your Bus is Here: Living My Life with Cerebral Palsy. The YMCA of Kings County in California is hosting the 1st Annual Cerebral Palsy Awareness Event on Friday, March 29. This is just a small sample of events happening across the U.S. Search “cerebral palsy awareness 2013” and your town’s name to find events happening near you.
Some communities have already honored National CP Month by holding fundraisers or educational events. Seventy-six high school students and staff members from John F. Kennedy High School in New York competed in a Trivia Challenge to promote cerebral palsy awareness. Their efforts raised over $1,000 for the Nassau County Cerebral Palsy Association. Many bloggers are also celebrating the month with special posts addressing life with cerebral palsy.
Prepare for World Cerebral Palsy Day
If your community doesn’t have a National CP Awareness event planned this year, it’s not too early to start planning for World CP Day celebrations. World Cerebral Palsy Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 2 this year. That means anyone interested in hosting a World CP Day event has 6 months to plan and prepare. That’s plenty of time to get the word out and make a huge impact for cerebral palsy awareness in your community!
