Local boy John Garza, Natalia Class of 2011, and his friend Steven Akin will be suiting up soon for a 4,274 mile bike ride across the country from Virginia to Oregon. They are having a plate sale in Natalia in order to raise money to fund their ride, and hope to raise awareness for a little girl named Addie along the way.
“We need to raise $2,800 to pay for our food along the way. Raising money for Addie has been and will be such a privilege, however our personal expenses are high as well,” Garza said. “During this 70-day bike ride, we’ll be stopping in various towns to campaign and tell people about Addie.
“Addie is a little girl from California who suffers from Cerebral Palsy. The family’s health insurance won’t cover the treatment that they’ve found to be most efficient, and so they are trying to raise money to pay for medical expenses.”
