She has won ribbons in horse shows competing with her able bodied peers, went on to graduate high school and is now a rising Junior majoring in accounting at Shepherd University in WV where she has a 3.85 GPA and serves in leadership as a Resident Advisor. Maggie has overcome many obstacles and challenges in 14 years. She was not supposed to live to be a year old. Maggie has had hip surgeries, a spinal fusion, and many battles with infection. Patrick

patrick
I would like to nominate Patrick for the Hero of the day. This kid laughs in the face of obstacles. If you tell him that he cannot, he will. If he falls, he gets back up and goes harder. I admire his hard work and determination every day. He is strong. He is persistent. He is a fighter and he knows no other way to live. The truth is, I used to protect him from failure. Shield him. Not let him fall. I still do, but I’m working on that. I’m changing that because Patrick deserves recognition. He should be so proud of himself and who he is. He is a warrior. He is my Hero every single day!

He is the strongest boy I know and he is the air that I breathe.

Matthew

matthew
My son Matthew is my hero. He doesn’t let Cerebral Palsy hold him back from trying anything. He loves to surf & go horseback riding. He works very hard at nightly therapies after a full day at school. He has shown us such guts & determination having been through a number of surgeries. I think if he can go through so many months of pain after such invasive bone surgery and come up still smiling, then I have nothing to complain about. He is my inspiration to keep going…..and smile!
