Each month, we receive hundreds of submissions from families all over the world, sharing their stories as well as photos of their children. If you would like to feature your child as the Hero of the Day, send us a photo of them to our facebook page.
This is my son Ethan dressed up for pirate’s day at school. He was diagnosed with cp at 8 months and just turned 7 in August. Over the years, he has proven the doctors wrong so many times; he’s my little miracle baby!
I would like to nominate my 20-year-old daughter Breanna Barr for “hero of the day” She was diagnosed with right hemiplegic cerebral palsy at 18 months old due to a stroke during delivery. We were told her mobility would be limited. She soldiered through 10 years of physical therapy, several deep muscle Botox injections, and wearing an orthotic. She has won ribbons in horse shows competing with her able bodied peers, went on to graduate high school and is now a rising Junior majoring in accounting at Shepherd University in WV where she has a 3.85 GPA and serves in leadership as a Resident Advisor. Bre has overcome so much already and that’s why I would like to nominate her as the CP Family Network “hero of the day!”
Brittany was born on 4/17/90 at 4 lbs 15 ozs. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 6 months old. Brittany left side was affected and she wore a brace on her left leg. At the age of 13 she was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and passed away at 13 years old.
Hello, I would like to nominate my hero of the day Mikah better known as my “Kah Kah” for hero of the day!! Kah Kah has been the most important person in my life for the last 9 years! He smiles even when his day is filled with pain! He gives his family and friends life with this look in the picture!! He’s a blessing that everyone cherishes and we are forever grateful for him!!! I’m elated that he chose me to be his mom!!! My hero!!
My son James who never stops smiling even when things get tough. His determination & strength never seizes to amaze me. Over coming every obstacle that come’s his way. Exceeding expectations & showing everyone what can be achieved if you put your mind to it. I would like to nominate my son for CP hero of the day. James has Spastic Deplegia, 3 years ago we were told he would never be able to walk. Since then, he has been able to walk unaided.
My name is Tierney Burke, and I’m 13 years old. I am fully reliant on my wheelchair to get around but I don’t let that stand in my way for doing things. I’m part of our local theatre group, which I love. I love to play botcha and power soccer. I have recently started secondary school and love it!
I would like to nominate my little peanut Brilee Valentina for Hero of the Day. She is 2 1/2 years old and has CP, seizures, and PVL due to extreme prematurity (born 16 weeks early and weighed 1lb 9oz). Her determination despite her limitations is so remarkable. She has endured so much in the short amount of time she has been on this earth but she loves life and brings a smile to everyone that meets her. She is a true blessing from God.
Maggie has overcome many obstacles and challenges in 14 years. She was not supposed to live to be a year old. Maggie has had hip surgeries, a spinal fusion, and many battles with infection. In spite of all of this, she brings joy and happiness to all who know her. She is a blessing from God and the angel that makes me a better person. Maggie is definitely my hero!
I would like to nominate Patrick for the Hero of the day. This kid laughs in the face of obstacles. If you tell him that he cannot, he will. If he falls, he gets back up and goes harder. I admire his hard work and determination every day. He is strong. He is persistent. He is a fighter and he knows no other way to live. The truth is, I used to protect him from failure. Shield him. Not let him fall. I still do, but I’m working on that. I’m changing that because Patrick deserves recognition. He should be so proud of himself and who he is. He is a warrior. He is my Hero every single day!
This is my son Marc and I would like to nominate him for hero of the day. Marc was born at 23 weeks. He has Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, neurogenic scoliosis, hydrocephalus, chronic lung disease among other issues. Marc will be 9 in November and he has overcome so many obstacles in his life. He is the strongest boy I know and he is the air that I breathe.
My son Matthew is my hero. He doesn’t let Cerebral Palsy hold him back from trying anything. He loves to surf & go horseback riding. He works very hard at nightly therapies after a full day at school. He has shown us such guts & determination having been through a number of surgeries. I think if he can go through so many months of pain after such invasive bone surgery and come up still smiling, then I have nothing to complain about. He is my inspiration to keep going…..and smile!
My daughter Sofia was born at 24 weeks! She has cerebral palsy, and this is a picture from when she got Botox on her hand and she opened it up all the way for the first time! She got so excited it brought tears to my eyes!
I would like to nominate my beautiful angel, Hunter Hood! He’s had quadriplegic spastic CP since he was born. Hunter has the most infectious smile with an energetic loving spirit. He truly loves to flirt with the ladies! Though we have our trials and tribulations, we continue to get through them. God bless all our beautiful angels, and all our strong parents everywhere.
