Middle-school Student Battles Cerebral Palsy, Becomes Wrestler

Jeffree Bellamy is just like every other kid in the fifth grade. He goes to school, hangs out with friends and is active in sports.
One area in life where Jeffree has particular enthusiasm is wrestling. But Jeffree has some special circumstances surrounding his wrestling activities — he was born three months early, and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy upon his birth.

“I was only 2 pounds when I was born,” Jeffree said.

His mother, Nijuana Bellamy, explained Jeffree has had a rough time with physical activity, and said doctors told her he would eventually end up in a wheel-chair as he grew bigger.

According to the Mayo Clinic, cerebral palsy is a disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture that is caused by an insult to the immature, developing brain, most often before birth. The website also stated the effect of the condition varies widely in that some individuals with the disorder are able to walk while other are not.

Nijuana was unwilling to accept the aspect of her son being confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life, so she sought out a second opinion which yielded the results she was looking for.
