Arc of D.C.
The Arc of the District of Columbia, Inc. (Arc of DC) is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) membership organization serving persons with intellectual disabilities and their families in the District of Columbia. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of all persons with intellectual disabilities and their families through supports and advocacy. We envision a society in which individuals with intellectual disabilities exercise their rights and are afforded a full set of opportunities and choices that enable them to contribute and have impact in the community.
Programs/ Services:
The Arc of DC has been serving persons with intellectual disabilities in Washington DC and their families since 1950. We provide programs and services that show respect for the individual and enable persons with intellectual disabilities to contribute and have impact in the community.
Supported Employment:
For more than 30 years, The Arc of DC has provided employers in the metropolitan Washington area with highly-qualified, reliable, and dedicated employees.
Our professional placement staff works with employers in all phases of the employment process, from matching the employee with the job, hiring decisions, job coaching, and follow-along. Individuals are placed in a variety of positions to suit their skills and interests.
Advocacy:
The Arc of DC's advocacy and community supports promote public policy initiatives, family empowerment, and self actualization for District residents with intellectual disabilities. By advancing new policies, programs, and laws, we help persons with disabilities obtain greater independence and help ensure they have the opportunity to live, work, and play alongside their neighbors as valued members of the Washington, DC community.
