Arizona Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) Program
The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) Program works to improve the health and well-being of children and youth with special health care needs and their families in Arizona.
Key initiatives include:
- Family Engagement: We work to increase family and youth engagement in the assessment, design, and implementation of our programs through our CYSHCN Program Family Advisors and the Engaging Families and Young Adults Program.
- Moving to Adulthood: We work to improve the systems that support youth and young adults with special health care needs as they move from pediatric to adult health care services.
- Early Childhood Education: We provide coaching on the Pyramid Model to early childhood education providers to ensure they can support all children to be successful.
- Gap Filing Services: We provide gap filing services (respite and palliative services, accommodation, medical care) to families that need them most.
- Information & Referral: We develop tools like the Health Care Organizer to help families organize their child’s important medical information and healthcare needs.
The CYSHCN Program also partners closely with other ADHS programs that screen, assess, or serve CYSHCN, including: Newborn Screening (NBS), the Arizona Birth Defects Monitoring Program (ABDMP), Sensory Screening, the High-Risk Perinatal Program (HRPP), and Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC).
