Baranof Elementary, Sitka School District
Baranof Elementary School! Baranof is a primary school nestled between majestic mountains and the sparkling ocean and is a lovely place to be! We have a very experienced and dedicated staff. Baranof School includes special needs preschool classes and grades kindergarten through first. Our school population varies from year to year but typically includes about 260 students. Our building was remodeled in 2000 and features a large salt water aquarium in the lobby which is a source of fascination to all that enter.
In addition to on-going staff literacy training opportunities provided through our literacy leader we also offer special reading support to kindergarteners and first graders that need assistance. Our specialty reading program allows specially trained teachers to work in small groups and at times one-on-one with any child that needs extra support to become a proficient reader. Literacy and a love of books are stressed throughout our school.
