Mission Statement – Ramapo for Children inspires youth with special needs to experience success, develop healthy relationships and learn necessary life skills. Ramapo achieves this through residential camp programs, adventure-based experiences and innovative training for the adults who empower children to reach their full potential.

Programs:

Camp Ramapo – Our summer camp, Camp Ramapo, is consistent with Ramapo for Children’s overall mission: to serve children with a range of emotional and learning problems in a natural, outdoor environment. It provides educational and recreational experiences which promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth. Children, aged six to sixteen, are referred by parents, teachers, and mental health professionals and we offer the following programs:
Summer Adventure (ages 6-14)
Teen Leadership (ages 14-16)

A safe, predictable and highly structured environment
Campers' bunks average six children to a group.
Ramapo's atmosphere is warm and supportive; all activities are carefully supervised.
The 250-acre grounds are attractive and well-tended.

Days are action packed! – During each of our three summer sessions, 175 campers swim, hike, play sports, enjoy playgrounds, work together to climb ropes courses, camp out, reinforce literacy and science related skills, and participate in activities such as music, drama, arts and crafts, and ceramics. Counselors lead activities and serve as role models and “coaches” to help campers participate positively in new and familiar experiences.

Fertile ground for friendship and growth – Adventures and friendships abound at Ramapo, providing opportunities for campers to learn to live within a group, form productive relationships, develop confidence, and recognize the benefits of good choices and the consequences of poor choices. Ramapo promotes character values such as honesty, concern for others, responsibility, and the courage to do one's best.

Ramapo Retreats – serve school groups, community-based organizations and social service agencies, providing adventure-based, experiential learning experiences that promote positive character values, build social and learning competencies, and enhance self-esteem in children of all ages and abilities. Directed by highly experienced Ramapo program facilitators, these programs also enable teachers and staff to learn new techniques and strategies for working with children.

Staff supervision – The Ramapo counselor staff is mostly comprised of college students majoring in education, psychology and social work. They are carefully selected for the leadership, personal values, enthusiasm, and maturity that enable them to relate to and motivate young people. Each counselor is closely supervised by an administration of knowledgeable and dedicated educators and social service professionals.

Accreditation and safety – Camp Ramapo’s top priority is to ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers in our care. Ramapo for Children is accredited by the American Camping Association and is licensed to operate by the Dutchess County Department of Health.

Ramapo Training – The professional development program of Ramapo for Children, provides behavior management training, program support and coaching for educators, parents and youth service workers. Drawing on over 80 years of experience training staff to work with children with special needs, Ramapo Training also works with inexperienced supervisors to build inclusive environments where all children may thrive.
