Challenged Ski Association, Cannonsburg (MI)
The Cannonsburg Challenged Ski Association (CCSA) is a non-profit organization located in Ada, Michigan, that was established in the early 1980's to offer individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate in winter activities. CCSA started with only ten students, one outrigger, a bamboo pole and one sit ski, and has now evolved over the years into an organization serving more than 100 students. Each year, Cannonsburg Challenged Ski Association (CCSA) provides lessons and the use of adaptive downhill ski equipment to people with disabilities in West Michigan at the Cannonsburg Ski Area.
As a chapter of Disabled Sports USA, CCSA provides volunteer training and ski instruction for individuals with disabilities. CCSA strives to serve all ages and disabilities in their programs. We strongly encourage family participation and the maximum independence possible for each individual.
Through CCSA, children and adults with a wide range of physical and developmental disabilities can enjoy the thrill and challenge of skiing. Students are able to meet their physical, emotional, social and cognitive goals in addition to gaining the confidence necessary to succeed in every day life.
Our program is designed to help people expand their horizons, master new skills, make new friends, and increase motor coordination. Most importantly, participants experience growth in self-confidence and independence that affects all aspects of an their life. Our services are open to all, regardless of type of disability or age. Our one-to-one ratio allows us to meet individual needs and abilities. Our goal is to help others reach their full potential.
