Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding improves the lives of children and adults with disabilities at the area’s oldest nationally accredited therapeutic horseback riding center. CATR provides therapeutic riding and other Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies to over 140 children and adults with disabilities and 30 wounded military veterans each year. By moving the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, therapeutic riding helps individuals with a wide range of disabilities gain strength, balance and confidence.

Riding and interacting with horses is also fun, motivating and empowering, which promotes social, communicative and cognitive progress. CATR is recognized as a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) Premier Accredited Center. CATR offers this beneficial therapeutic opportunity at Brickhouse Equestrian Center, a beautiful 43-acre facility in Johns Island, SC.
