Chesapeake Parks and Recreation Department meets the diverse needs of a growing population with a variety of recreational, social and cultural activities and is responsible for maintaining city-owned open space.

A City Council-appointed citizen advisory board helps direct the operation of the recreation, parks, athletics, community center, senior, therapeutics and leisure divisions.

Additionally, the grounds maintenance division of Parks and Recreation is responsible for the care, maintenance and beautification of parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields and facilities."
