Children’s Hospital of Michigan (CHM)
Since 1886, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan has been dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to children and adolescents in a caring, efficient and family-centered environment. A proud member of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC), the Children’s Hospital of Michigan is the first and most experienced pediatric specialty hospital in the state.. With more than 40 specialties, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan sees more kids and trains more pediatric medical and surgical experts than any other hospital in the state. For 125 years, the Children's Hospital of Michigan is the hospital where all we know and everything we do is just for them.
Staffed by more than 2,000 employees, the Children's Hospital of Michigan has 340 physicians, 125 pediatric specialists, 513 pediatric-trained nurses; more Michigan pediatricians are trained at Children's Hospital than at any other hospital in the state.
Rehabilitation Services
DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan offers a full complement of therapy services in a 10-bed inpatient unit with four convenient outpatient locations for children and adolescents recovering from injury or illness. Therapists are pediatric rehabilitation specialists including team members certified in NDT (Neurodevelopment Treatment) certified and SIPT (Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests). The rehabilitation centers are kid-friendly and the therapy staff is skilled in working with children in a therapeutic milieu.
The inpatient program admits children with neurological (traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and cerebral vascular accident), congenital and orthopedic conditions. Children with extensive burns and other disabling conditions are also candidates for admission to the unit.
Children's Research Center of Michigan
The Children's Research Center of Michigan (CRCM) began operations on July 1, 1997. The CRCM provides a new and more efficient mechanism for clinicians and scientists to pursue both existing and novel biomedical investigation at Children's Hospital of Michigan and collaborating organizations. Affiliated with the Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University , the CRCM was conceived of and instituted to ensure that the Hospital's mission might be more quickly and fully realized.
The CRCM is dedicated to support scientific investigations into childhood diseases. In this regard, the CRCM has established programs in the basic sciences, clinical research, health effectiveness/outcomes studies, and the discovery and use of advanced technology in pediatric medicine and surgery. In addition to these on-going studies, the CRCM is also interested in new areas of investigation and emerging opportunities that can be of benefit to the populations we serve and are, therefore, congruent with the mission of Children's Hospital of Michigan.
Serving as the faculty and staff for the Children's Hospital of Michigan, the Department of Pediatrics at Wayne State University School of Medicine is dedicated to the provision of the highest quality of care to all children within not only Detroit and Southeastern Michigan, but throughout the Midwest and in multiple overseas locations.
