People with disabilities are much more vulnerable to abuse and neglect than others. California does not have an accessible, comprehensive, coordinated system to report and respond to abuse and neglect. Preventing abuse and neglect will improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. Our goals include: 1) reducing serious and life-threatening injuries caused by abuse and neglect in all facilities (Institutions, Hospitals, Skilled nursing facilities, Residential care facilities, and Jails, prisons, and other correctional facilities), 2) Improving how oversight agencies respond to reported abuse and neglect in these facilities, 3) Providing technical assistance or investigation of serious injury or death related abuse or neglect.
