DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) is the official provider of rehabilitation services for DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan. That means our pediatric rehab specialists have both the expertise and experience to treat children the right way.

RIM’s pediatric rehab program treats children, from birth to young adult, who have impairments or conditions as the result of an injury, illness or developmental disability.

Based on your child’s needs, his or her rehabilitation program will focus on:
• Mobility
• Activities of daily living
• Communication
• Cognitive skills
• Memory
• Social interaction.

We provide customized services for many conditions, including:
• Cerebral palsy
• Brachial plexus injuries
• Torticollis
• Myelomeningocele/spina bifida
• Neuromuscular disorders
• Orthopedic conditions
• Gait disorders
• Spinal cord injuries
• Stroke
• Traumatic brain injuries
• Burns
• Dysphagia (feeding)
• Sensor processing disorders, including autism and attention deficit disorder

Pediatric Outpatient Rehabilitation

Our three outpatient locations are kid-friendly and staffed with physical and occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists.

All of RIM’s pediatric rehab specialists are experienced in the complexities of pediatric disability and rehabilitation. Staff specialties include:

• NDT (Neurodevelopment Treatment)
• SIPT (Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests)
• AAC (augmentative and alternative communication)
• VitalStim
• Lokomat robotic gait training
