Eagle Valley Children’s Home – Respite Program – Carson City NV
Initiated in 1985, the Respite program addresses the long-term, repetitive stress felt by caregivers of developmentally disabled people who reside in the family home.
The Respite Program provides support to families or primary caregivers of people with developmental disabilities through temporary, short-term care of the dependent person in the family's home. Both planned and emergency respites are available to reduce stress and prevent unwanted placement outside the family home.
Families become eligible for respite services when they are caring for one or more family member(s) who:
1. has (have) a doctor's certification of a developmental disability according to current legal definition,
2. does not require intensive care by licensed nursing personnel,
3. has (have) needs within the scope of current Respite staff, and are consistent with program goals and philosophy.
Funding for this program comes from donations, family's fee-for-service (income-based sliding scale), and the Nevada Children's Foundation, Inc.
Respite services for up to 30 hours per month are available to qualified families living in NW Nevada in Washoe, Carson, Lyon, Douglas, Churchill or Storey counties.
Respite services include:
in-home care of the disabled person
sibling care
training for caregivers
