Early On – Project Find – Michigan
Our role is to support the child find mandate of the IDEA. This project conducts targeted public awareness through statewide media, grassroots efforts, a travelling statewide display board, and internet marketing. Through multiple venues, our goal is to refer as early as possible all children, youth, and young adults with disabilities who may be eligible for special educational services through Michigans Administrative Rules for Special Education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Part B.
Project Find is devoted to helping individuals, parents, and people who work with families (known as primary referral sources), to connect with the special educational services that may be needed. In Michigan, eligible children, youth, and young adults may receive special educational services from birth through 25 years of age.
Project Find Michigan is part of the child find component of the IDEA It requires that all states to ensure the following: All children with disabilities residing in the State, including children with disabilities who are homeless children or are wards of the State and children with disabilities attending private schools, regardless of the severity of their disabilities, and who are in need of special education and related services, are identified, located, and evaluated and a practical method is developed and implemented to determine which children with disabilities are currently receiving needed special education and related services.
