OUR PROGRAMS
Eastern Plains Head Start (EPHS) serves 6 communities throughout Eastern New Mexico. Its administrative offices are located in Tucumcari. EPHS offers Head Start in 6 communities, serving a total of 329 3-year-old and 4-year-old children.
EPHS offers Early Head Start (EHS) services to a total of 102 children in Clovis, Portales, and Tucumcari.
EHS provides services to babies and toddlers from ages 6 weeks to 3 years. It also works with expectant mothers.
THE CRITERIA
As mandated by the Federal Government, Head Start and Early Head Start primarily serve low-income families. Low-income is defined as those who are at or below the current year’s poverty guidelines. Nevertheless, up to 10% of those enrolled can be from families who are over-guidelines. Children with documented disabilities are given special consideration. Enrollment is based on the needs of the child and the family. Several factors are taken into consideration.
