Educational Service Unit #16

"The philosophy of the ESU No. 16 Board is stated in the Policy Handbook as follows: “We believe

that Educational Service Unit No. 16 exists for the primary purpose of providing supplementary

services to children and adults which are supportive to programs already being provided in the

schools presently established.”

This philosophy is a direct reflection of Article 12, Section 79-1204 of Nebraska State Law which

dictates the purpose of Nebraska Educational Service Units. Service units were created to provide

supplementary services to school districts on a multi-county basis in a way that is more cost effective,

efficient, and faster than what individual school districts could do. Basically, we exist to provide

services to the schools we serve. Special Education Coordinator – ESU #16 Director of Special Education is responsible for supervision and overall coordination of all special education services available through ESU #16 as contracted services to the area schools. Those services may be either direct supervision of contracted ESU #16 personnel or indirect services to schools through supervision of locally owned special education programs and staff.
