Friends Homes, Inc.
Friends Homes Inc. is a non-profit corporation chartered in 1958 for the purpose of owning and operating a retirement community in Greensboro, North Carolina. Founded by the North Carolina Yearly Meeting of the Society of Friends (Quakers), Friends Homes was founded to minister to the needs of the 60+ population.
Friends Homes at Guilford: is conveniently located across the street from Guilford College and close to shopping areas. From its modest beginning with 24 apartments in 1968, Friends Homes at Guilford has earned a reputation as an outstanding retirement community. Through the years, the facility has expanded its accommodations and services and is a continuing care community offering three levels of care on a fee-for-service basis.
Most recent additions to the campus of Friends Homes at Guilford include Hobbs Hall with 40 apartments for independent living and the state-of-the art Whittier Nursing Center which includes a special Memory Care Unit. Friends Homes at Guilford also has a fitness center, library, beauty/barber shop, woodworking shop, art studio and nature trail.
The 20 acre campus includes:
190 apartments – independent living
Ten cottages of varying sizes
Fry Hall Assisted Living – 52 rooms
Whittier Nursing Center – 69 rooms
Friends Homes West: opened in 1993 and was built by Friends Homes to meet the needs of an expanding senior population. The campus is located on West Friendly Avenue approximately one-half mile from Friends Homes at Guilford. Friends Homes West is near Guilford College and close to shopping areas. The continuing care retirement community offers three levels of care on a fee-for-service basis. Friends Homes West has a fitness center with an indoor swimming pool, a beauty/barber shop, woodworking shop, game rooms, craft facilities and a stocked lake.
The 55 acre campus includes:
171 one and two bedroom apartments for independent living
Assisted Living – 40 rooms
Health Care Center – 40 private rooms
