Goldenrod Hills Community Action

"Goldenrod Hills Community Action (GHCA), Inc. is a private, non-profit corporation, incorporated under the laws of the State of Nebraska, and headquartered at Wisner, Nebraska. The agency was chartered in 1966 as the Thurston County Community Action Council under the provisions of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. The agency's first home was in Macy, NE serving the residents of Thurston County. In 1967, the office moved from Macy to Walthill, NE. As the service area grew the central offices were again relocated to Wisner, NE. Today, Goldenrod Hills Community Action serves an income-eligible population in a 14-county area of Northeast Nebraska, including the counties of Antelope, Burt, Cedar, Cuming, Dakota, Dixon, Dodge, Knox, Madison, Pierce, Stanton, Thurston, Washington and Wayne.
The following are a few interesting facts about Goldenrod Hills Community Action:
The agency's first program was Head Start, established in 1966.
The agency was a major participant in a million dollar manpower program from the U.S. Department of Labor. It’s purpose was to study the health benefits of Senior Citizens. In 1969 Senior Centers were started.
Throughout the years, the agency has administered many programs that have become independent entities. A few of those are Senior Centers, Family Planning, Canning Center, Summer Feeding, Halfway House, Center for Rural Affairs, Joint Housing Authority, Food Stamp Program and Northeast Health Care Partnership.
