Harrison County School District – Special Education
Specialized classes include: Infant Program – This program serves children ages 6 weeks to 2 years of age. Specialized developmental activities are used to address the needs of babies in the areas of feeding, mobility, and visual awareness, all utilizing a language based curriculum.
Toddler Program – Addresses the development of children ages 2-3 including activities involving fine and gross motor skills; verbilations, self help and other developmentally appropriates milestones.
Preschool Program – Serves children 3-5 years of age with developmental delays. Services are provided with language based instruction to meet the developmentally appropriate age of the students. Skills address in the Preschool program include pre-reading, math, socialization and self help activities. Upon reaching entry age, these students are transitioned into the regular kindergarten classroom in the neighborhood schools if appropriate
School-Age Program is a level of instruction designed for those school ages students who disabilities interfere with their ability to transition into the regular neighborhood schools.
Vocational Preparation services provide exploratory experiences and training to further vocational options in the community setting
Autism Program is divided into two age levels, a school age and preschool level. Specialized teaching methods include utilizing the TEACH method as well as Applied Behavioral Analysis.
