For People With Differing Abilities

Our Mission
To actively seek out people with disabilities and provide them with recreational opportunities

What We Do – Since 1992, HERO has been conducting recreational programs for physically and
mentally challenged people in the greater New York metropolitan area.

HERO Tennis – Provides fun, fitness and positive social experiences. Programs are run on an on-going basis or as special events known as HERO Tennis Carnivals. HERO Tennis is available to individuals of all ages with developmental, physical and emotional disabilities. Lessons are scheduled Mondays through Saturdays and are tailored to meet group and individual needs. These sessions are conducted at the metropolitan area’s parks, schools, and indoor/outdoor facilities.

HERO Pets Uplifting People – Known as PUP, focuses on the interaction between animals and humans. Components of the program include experiencing the responsibility of brushing, washing and feeding dogs, cats, rabbits and birds. Since animals are non-judgemental, individuals with disabilities can interact comfortably with them without feeling “different”. All animals are evaluated and certified by The Delta Society.

HERO Creative Arts:

HERO Dance – Provides the joy of dancing through the use of body and rhythmic movements. Participants increase coordination, flexibility, balance, and their overall sense of well-being.

HERO Movement & Song – Encourages creative expression through active music making, sing-alongs and dance. Rhythm instruments such as tambourines, maracas, bells and triangles help create an enjoyable movement and song experience.

HERO Percussion Band – Participants sit together in a circle and play drums and other percussion instruments. The imagination of the group is sparked as they enact visions of trains, thunderstorms, etc. using their percussion instruments.

HERO Yoga – Yoga provides the tools for maximizing health by developing strength and flexibility in a gentle manner.
