DR. J. P. Lord School opened in February 1938 as a result of the combined efforts of the Nebraska Society for Crippled Children and the Omaha Public Schools. Presently, students at J.P. Lord fall under the Nebraska Department of Education Rule 51 definition for students with multiple disabilities. Students range in age from 5 to 21. Integration is an integral part of the education process at Lord. The education program includes community based learning activities and reverse integration with community volunteers who participate in classroom and individual student activities several times a week. The Omaha Schools Foundation donated a new computer and printer for every classroom. This technology has provided Lord students greater opportunities to participate in cognitive, sensory, self-help and communication programs that are individualized to meet the unique needs of each student.
