Life Skills
Life Skills changes lives by helping people with developmental disabilities find meaningful work and live in a home of their own in the community. All people with developmental disabilities live and participate in a community that values their contribution. In 1964 the prospect of a person with a development disability living a full and meaningful life outside of an institution was doubtful. There were few opportunities for education, job training or community participation. Yet, a small group of determined parents had dreams for their children with developmental disabilities. They dreamed of a life of greater independence, an accepting community and a bright future that would continue long after they were no longer able to take care of them. From this vision Life Skills was established.
Throughout our history, Life Skills has remained true to our mission of providing the highest quality, individualized services that meet our clients’ needs. Our services are designed with the support of parents and input from the people who receive them.
Today, Life Skills is changing lives by helping people with developmental disabilities live in a home of their own, find and keep a job and make friends. With 710 employees and growing, we serve more than 1,500 clients in St. Louis City, St. Louis and St. Charles counties. Not only are our clients changed by their experiences, but communities are enriched and the values, beliefs and lives of those they touch are transformed.
