Louisville has had a library as early as 1816, but it was not a free public library. The Library's mission is to provide the people of Louisville and Jefferson County with the broadest possible access to knowledge, ideas and information, and to support them in their pursuit of learning. The Louisville Free Public Library presently has 17 branch locations in addition to the main library. There are also two bookmobiles, one for adult services and one for juvenile outreach.
