It is Madison School & Community Recreation’s mission to enhance the quality of life for individuals in the Madison Metropolitan School District and for the community by providing recreation and enrichment opportunities year-round that are accessible to all. MSCR offers year round, affordable, community-based recreation, social, physical and educational programs for individuals of all abilities. Any individual with a disability is eligible to utilize MSCR’s Adaptive Recreation programs.

The classes and activities are designed for people with disabilities, along with their family and friends. Many adaptive programs are planned with specific populations in mind, so check the MSCR Program Guide to see which programs are appropriate for you and/or your child. All individuals with disabilities are eligible to enroll in any MSCR youth or adult program and seek assistance to participate through MSCR Inclusion Services. Inclusion Services provide reasonable accommodations to individuals so everyone can participate in any MSCR program. Learn more Adaptive Programs offered: City Clubs, east and west sites: Social activities and day trips designed primarily for adults with developmental disabilities. Fitness programming: Fit Clubs (east and west): Fitness screening, nutrition education, weight lifting and other physical programming.

Some programs are offered in cooperation with Wisconsin Special Olympics. Chair Exercise: For adults with orthopedic and developmental disabilities. Water Walking Fitness: Self-directed or MSCR staff supported water fitness in a warm water east side pool for all adults with disabilities. Golf: instructional (Vitense) and recreational (Glenway) options. Family/staff welcome but must pay the green fees. Unified Sports in cooperation with Special Olympics Wisconsin; Futsal, Indoor Soccer: All are welcome to participate including people without disabilities. Youth and adult programming. Project Unify in cooperation with Special Olympics Wisconsin offered at several MSCR Middle and High School Afterschool Programs. Sporting events: Day trips include UW sports games, Milwaukee Brewers, Capitols hockey.

All ages welcome. Staff/family members are welcome but must pay the ticket price.

Power Soccer: Designed for individuals with orthopedic impairments who use a power wheelchair (scooters not permitted). Ages 8+.

Downhill Skiing: Specialized equipment and/or training to allow all individuals with disabilities to experience the fun of skiing.
Adaptive sleds, outriggers and equipment is available for those with orthopedic disabilities or visual impairments. Open to all ages.

Pontoon Boat Rides: Fishing trips, free open houses and group outings are organized for agencies, individuals and families. Pontoon boats are wheelchair accessible. All disabilities. All ages.
