Maryland State Department of Education – Division of Rehabilitation Services – DORS
The Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) offers programs and services that help people with disabilities go to work or stay independent in their homes and communities.
DORS employees include rehabilitation counselors, disability claims examiners, rehabilitation teachers for the blind, specialized caseworkers, physicians, and a wide variety of professional and administrative staff.
DORS is a part of the Maryland State Department of Education.
DORS operates two major programs:
- Vocational Rehabilitation
- Disability Determination Services
In the Vocational Rehabilitation program, eligible individuals may choose from services such as career assessment, vocational training and job placement.
- The Disability Determination Services determine the eligibility of Maryland applicants for Social Security (SSA) two programs:
- Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) which provides cash benefits to insured workers who meet the definition of disability and to their dependentsSupplemental Security Income (SSI) which provides monthly cast benefits to children and adults who meet the definition of disability as well as certain income and resource guidelines
