"Since 1949, Midwest Special Services has been providing individualized programs and supports to adults with intellectual and physical disabilities to help them reach their personal goals and achieve their full potential. We are committed to identifying the barriers that face our participants and building customized plans to help them overcome those barriers.
We believe in empowering our clients by giving them the opportunity to be productive on work teams and in the business world as well as through creating and selling artwork. Through our Vocational and Day Training and Habilitation (DT&H) services we offer a range of program components designed to meet not only their employment aspirations but their educational, social and recreational needs as well. Additionally, MSS offers specialized services for seniors with disabilities, innovative programming options for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and an award winning creative arts program.
Midwest Special Services geographic reach covers the entire seven-county metro area with 5 facilities uniquely designed to support more than 500 individuals. Our main office in St. Paul is home to an efficient, cost effective and reliable production services operation. We offer 25,000 square feet of on-site fulfillment space, dock access, seasoned sales staff who customize process plans and a willing, enthusiastic workforce. • Day Training and Habilitation (DTH)
The DT&H Program stresses empowerment of people who have severe disabilities to make choices in their daily lives. Program participants have options to choose vocational or non-vocational activities. Most choose a mix of both. Paid work is available to anyone desiring it. Recreational activities and less traditional training opportunities are integral parts of our programming. Innovative DT&H services are provided in all five of our locations, fostering lifelong learning and independence for each person served.
• Autism/ASD Program – The Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Program focuses on developing and reinforcing skills for daily living while providing a variety of skill-building opportunities. MSS provides meaningful life experiences in a safe and supportive environment. We encourage adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and related conditions to achieve to the maximum of their abilities. Daily schedules – incorporating frequent transitions – are built on a select group of core activities. Included are vocational, leisure, recreation and life skills.
• Vocational Services – Vocational Services consist of center-based employment, mobile work crews, supported employment, work evaluation and adjustment training, and job placement.
• CARES (Seniors) Program – CARES supports the vitality and changing needs of Seniors and Retirees with developmental disabilities. Retirement doesn’t need to mean inactivity. MSS CARES programs include a variety of activities, community involvement and work/volunteer options. Specific support for memory loss and issues associated with Alzheimer’s disease are available.
We provide a safe and welcoming environment to all who pass through our doors. We are committed to providing full accessibility to life resources for all people.
