Milwaukee Center for Independence
The Milwaukee Center for Independence has been a leading provider of life-changing programs and services for children and adults with disabilities, special needs and barriers to success since 1938. MCFI is a community resource for children, teens, adults and older adults with special needs and their families. Although the agency was founded more than 70 years ago, the past 10 years have brought rapid growth, from programs serving about 1,000 clients in 2000 to programs and services for more than 8,000 individuals today. This is in response to the needs of a growing population of people with special needs in Southeastern Wisconsin. MCFI's more than 500 staff members are continually developing better methods of assisting people who face challenges in participating in the life of our community. We have developed effective ways to achieve significant improvement in function and quality of life, across the lifespan. Programming is provided in four major areas: Children's programs; Long-term care; Employment services; Behavioral health programs. Everything we do is aimed at assisting our clients to achieve their highest levels of independence and create a meaningful, fulfilling and joyful life. As you navigate this Website, we hope you will take a few minutes to read a few success stories. We believe that people with physical, developmental, behavioral, economic and other challenges should be encouraged, educated, treated and supported as they move toward realizing their dreams.
