Each year the Southeast Island School District screens children (ages 3-21) as part of our effort to identify children who may be in need of special education services which include academic and related services.  Special education services are provided to students who experience a disability and are provided as part of a free and appropriate education (FAPE) to students, and include methods and practices that allow the student to benefit from a free and appropriate public education.   f parents or professionals who work with children have concerns about a child, they can refer the child for screening or evaluation.  Specific disabilities include autism, deafness, deaf-blindness, early childhood developmental delay, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, specific learning disability, cognitive impairment, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, or visual impairment.
