Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab, Kingston
Kingston Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab, P.C. has been providing physical therapy services to Ulster County and Hudson Valley residents for over 26 years. KPT is dedicated to providing quality patient care for all ages. Our therapists have superior training and expertise, and all of our facilities feature state-of-the-art equipment.
Our objective is to speed your return to daily life by promoting movement and improving function. After your in-office physical therapy program is complete, we provide guidance for you to continue your rehabilitation at home.
Our Services:
Functional Capacity Evaluation – When requested by an approved New York State licensed source: MD, PA, NP etc., this evaluation is performed by a licensed Physical Therapist and involves a physical examination and a functional examination component. The test includes dynamic activities of lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, balancing, bending, kneeling, and reaching overhead. An Advanced Therapeutic Products Inc. Work Cube, Biodex and JAMAR hand dynamometer are used to actually observe and assess each activity. These evaluations are performed at the request of a physician to assess an individuals’ physical functional ability and may also be used to determine level of disability.
Rehabilitation after Orthopaedic Surgery – Remember that you are always free to choose the Physical Therapist with whom you feel most comfortable and confident. Kingston Physical Therapy is the first choice for many surgeons in Ulster County, Dutchess County, and the Hudson Valley following surgery to repair fractures, ligaments, cartilage, ruptures or joint replacement surgery. Patients are often left with limited mobility and strength and we work with surgery patients to improve both range of motion and strength.
Back Pathologies – Back Pain is the most frequent cause of limited activity in a person younger than 45 years of age in the United States. The magnitude of the problem is enormous. 80% of the population is estimated to experience back pain at some time costing Americans 40 billion dollars per year! Our back therapy aids in the relief and prevention of back pain. We plan an effective program for individuals to minimize back pain and help prevent future back problems. Through education and awareness, individuals learn to accept responsibility for their own health and to participate actively in its management.
Sports Related and Other Injuries – Sprains, strains, fractures, and overuse are perhaps the most common cause of injury we face. Surgery can be painful, expensive and carry unwanted consequences. At Kingston Physical Therapy a physical therapist will review your medical history and measure your strength, range of motion, balance, coordination, posture, muscle, performance, and motor function to design a program for individuals. We work to return each patient quickly, but safely, back to their specific occupational and recreational activities. Along with rehabilitation we also emphasize prevention and education to improve long term outcome.
Strength and range of motion evaluations – Kingston Physical Therapy will will review your medical history and measure your strength, range of motion, balance, coordination, posture, muscle, performance, and motor function. A formal report will be prepared for your referring physician allowing the two of you to make informed decisions about which treatment, if any, is best for your rehabilitation. This information can subsequently be used for any physical therapy program designed for you.
Occupational Therapy – The goal of Occupational Therapy is to help individuals to function in the various aspects of daily life to the best of their ability, given their specific limitations. Occupational Therapists rehabilitate the injured upper extremity, teach patients how to prevent injuries from reoccurring, and teach patients how to compensate for permanent disabilities. Kingston Physical Therapy is also boasts having two of the area's very few Certified Hand Therapists on staff. A CHT requires additional training and ongoing certification that provides knowledge of complex hand surgeries and injuries, ensuring the best possible rehabilitation program.
Conditions related to aging – Aging is a normal process, but it can also unnecessarily limit daily activities. Normal aging need not result in pain and decrease in physical mobility. Kingston Physical Therapy can help you understand these anatomical and physiological changes, and offer assistance for regaining lost abilities or develop new ones. We will perform an evaluation and develop a specially designed therapeutic exercise program. Physical therapy intervention may prevent life long disability and restore the highest level of functioning compromised by normal aging.
Rehabilitation after Illness – The importance of rehabilitation after stroke, or similar illnesses, cannot be overemphasized. Studies have shown that rehabilitation is responsible for most of the recovery experienced by patients after a stroke, and that without it, little or no improvement can be accomplished. Physical Therapy is almost always a key component of this rehabilitation program. Kingston Physical Therapy also works with those affected by fibromyalgia and illnesses that have compromised balance, coordination, strength, and mobility.
