Special Education – Washington OSI
Special Education and related services are provided annually to about 124,000 eligible students in the state across 295 school districts. The federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) ensures that children with disabilities and the families of such children have access to a free appropriate education (FAPE). IDEA is focused on improving educational results for children with disabilities. This Web page contains technical assistance resources for special education staff, administrators, and families of preschool children who receive special education services. The resources are organized according to the three federal early childhood indicators of the State Performance Plan. The State Performance Plan is Washington's plan for improving school district performance on the 20 federally required program indicators.
