Special Olympics International (SOI)
Special Olympics International’s mission remains as vital today as it did when the movement was founded in 1968. Through the power of sport, Special Olympics strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people.
Mission Statement
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
SOI provides opportunities for participants to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, expereince joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes, and the community.
