Spirit Therapeutic Riding Center
Spirit Therapeutic Riding Center’s mission statement is to provide equine assisted activities to individuals with physical, emotional and learning disabilities. We focus on capabilities not disabilities and promote independence. Therapeutic Riding Lessons are equine-assisted activities for people with disabilities. Lessons are taught by a certified therapeutic riding instructor, with assistance from our volunteers. This is a one hour lesson that focuses on individual riding skills while gaining a therapeutic benefit. These benefits include increasing muscle tone and core strength, improving hand/eye coordination and balance, improving communication, increasing self-esteem and developing a sense of control. Instructors create a wide variety of games and exercises to increase the riders ability to listen, learn and communicate. In addition, all riders work on improving their horsemanship skills and a willingness to try new things and attain new goals. Riders not only improve their riding skills but are taught how to groom and tack their horses. Classes include arena riding and trail rides.
