The St. Charles Outpatient Rehabilitation Network offers multi-disciplinary pediatric services that include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Pediatric services are provided at the main campus in Port Jefferson while pediatric physical therapy services are offered at the Smithtown, Patchogue and Ronkonkoma locations.

Constraint Induced Therapy – We proudly offer a 3 week CIMT (constraint-induced movement camp) each summer for children with hemi paresis at a nominal fee to the family. An experienced therapist coordinates the camp along with externs from local PT/OT school programs so that each child receives 1:1 supervision. Recent studies show that the use of constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) can improve functional gains in children and adults with hemi paresis.  CIMT focuses on regaining movement of the affected arm and hand.  It consists of casting the non-affected arm, which forces the child to learn to move the affected arm.  The non-affected arm is restrained for 21 days, during which the child is engaged in 6-hours a day of treatment for 5-days per week.  Treatment consists of age-appropriate, creative and fun activities, which integrate whole body movements as well as arm and hand usage on the affected side. All children will receive a comprehensive therapeutic evaluation, including standardized testing prior to beginning CIMT as well as at the completion of the 3-week camp program to determine the efficacy of the program

St. Charles also has an early intervention program for children birth to age three, who qualify for therapeutic and or educational services through the county. These services are provided primarily in home with therapeutic services also available as facility based in our main campus area.
