St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired (SLSBVI)
"St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired enhances independence, empowers individuals and enriches the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired and their families. Caring, qualified staff provide specialized vision rehabilitation, adaptive education, assistive technology and support services. St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired provides the full range of Vision Rehabilitation Services to adults and Special Education services to school-age students. Services are available in both Illinois and Missouri and are provided at the Society’s offices, in the home, community, place of employment or school. The Society is the only agency of its kind serving the St. Louis area, and the second oldest of its kind west of the Mississippi River.
The Society serves more than 1,500 individuals annually through a variety of services. The majority of those receiving services are older adults experiencing vision loss due to Macular Degeneration, Cataracts, Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy, with many having a combination of these eye diseases. Over 250 different vision aids and 100 daily living aids are available for demonstration and purchase. The Society enhances independence, empowers individuals and enriches the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired and their families. Caring, qualified staff provide specialized vision rehabilitation, adaptive education, assistive technology and support services."
