STAR (Statewide Technology Access and Response for Alabamians with Disabilities)
"STAR, Alabama’s Assistive Technology Act Program, is administered through the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services and is federally funded by the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) under the Assistive Technology Act of 1998, as amended in 2004 (P.L. 108-364).
Since its inception in 1994, STAR has been and continues to be a resource to provide Alabamians free access to information, referral services, educational programs, and publications in accessible format on extensive topics related to disability rights, laws/policies, and funding opportunities for assistive technology.
STAR has a 16-year history of established relationships and partnerships with public and private entities within the state to address AT-related issues and ensure statewide coverage. STAR staff participate on boards, advisory councils, workgroups, committees, etc., that address the needs of Alabamians with disabilities across a life span to increase the availability of assistive technology for the consumers they serve.
Mission: To enable Alabamians children and adults with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential at school, home, work and play through improved access to and acquisition of assistive technology devices and services via a variety of statewide activities.
