State Director of Adult Education, North Carolina Basic Skills Program
The North Carolina Community College System provides educational opportunities for adults to improve their reading, writing, mathematics, and communication skills through five major program components (Adult Basic Education, General Educational Development, Adult High School, English as a Second Language, and Compensatory Education).
The mission of the Basic Skills program is to assist adults to become literate and obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency, assist adults who are parents to obtain the educational skills necessary to become full partners in the educational development of their children, and assist adults in the completion of a secondary school education.
