Stowe Adaptive Sports – Hyde Park Vermont
Friends of Stowe Adaptive Sports partners with Stowe Mountain Resort’s Ski & Snowboard School to provide skiing and riding experiences in a world class resort setting, Umiak’s for adventures in stand up paddle boarding, and Just Ducky Aquatics to provide swim lessons for all.
Our Mission is to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities living in or visiting Vermont by sponsoring participation in adaptive sports and recreational programs. We work cooperatively with our partner organizations to enhance their ability to deliver a quality experience to persons with disabilities. We further our mission through three activities:
Providing scholarships to Vermont residents living with permanent disabilities that fund programs offered through our partner organizations
Providing grants to support advanced training to adaptive coaches affiliated with our partner organizations
Providing specialized adaptive equipment.
Programs Include:
Ski & Ride – Friends of Stowe Adaptive Sports sponsors Vermont athletes of all ages and abilities so they can explore the wonders of skiing and riding at Stowe Mountain Resort. Adaptive lessons are provided by the specially trained adaptive instructors at the Ski and Ride School or sponsored athletes can enjoy independent skiing and riding at the Resort.
Swimming – We have partnered with Just Ducky Aquatics to offer swim lessons to Vermont residents of all ages and abilities. Head coach Cara Hancy serves up acclimation to the aquatic environment, stroke work, and competition swimming at one of several pools in Lamoille County including the Golden Eagle Resort.
Racing – Friends of Stowe Adaptive Sports fosters participation in competitive sports as a way to build confidence and increase technical skill development.
