Mission Statement
The mission of the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center provides a Premier Accredited Therapeutic Riding Program to Western New York children with special needs to develop social, emotional, physical and educational skills. In a historic, urban facility, children of all socioeconomic backgrounds and their families interact with horses, adults and peers in a safe, fun and supportive environment.

There is a unique bond between horses and people that can be particularly meaningful to children with disabilities. Riding programs provide a relaxing, non-academic environment in which children can interact with adults and peers and more importantly with their horse.

Research has shown that therapeutic riding programs offer physical, psychological, social and educational benefits to special students. The riders themselves show us the benefits through their smiles, determination and their sense of accomplishment.

The Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center is the only indoor riding facility uniquely located in the heart of the city of Buffalo, and has been the site of a therapeutic riding program for 10 years. The BTRC currently offers programs for mentally and emotionally impaired, learning disabled and developmentally challenged children ages 6 to 16.

The classes are limited to four students to enforce a safe and fun experience. Each class is designed to achieve special goals that meet the requirements of the group and the individual. Programs are designed and taught by a member of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH). Volunteers are always needed and are an invaluable part of the program. They can assist with horse care, handling or serving as a friend.
