UAB – The Home of Constraint-Induced Therapy (CI Therapy)
Over the past 2 decades at UAB, neuroscientist and psychologist Dr. Edward Taub and his research team originated and have continued to refine a unique form of neuro-rehabilitation called Constraint-Induced Therapy (CIT or CI Therapy). Today, Dr. Taub continues his multi-faceted work as Director of the Taub Therapy Clinic, Scientific Director of Pediatric CI Therapy, as well as principle investigator in ongoing CI Therapy research trials.
The Taub Therapy Clinic is located at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital.
The Taub Therapy Clinic treats patients age 14 and over who qualify for treatment. Patients who have participated range from veterans with TBI and stroke patients to individuals with multiple sclerosis and those who have undergone tumor resection (removal of tissue).
The clinic is located within the Spain Rehabilitation Center, one of the Southeast’s foremost providers of comprehensive rehabilitation care.
Pediatric CI therapy patients are treated at Children’s of Alabama. UAB is an active participant in conducting ongoing clinical trials for CI Therapy.
