United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas (UCP-K) is a statewide organization founded in 1953 by a group of parents seeking to provide educational & therapeutic services for disabled children. As school districts have assumed more and more responsibility for these kinds of services, UCP-K has shifted its focus from children’s services to the development of programs and services that provide independent living opportunities, employment opportunities and the kind of assistive technologies that assure healthy lifestyles, access to the community and personal growth.

Programs and Services:

Adult Services:
Adult Day Program – UCP of Kansas provides major financial support for an Adult Day Program that serves multiple/severely disabled individuals in the Wichita area. Employment Services – UCP of Kansas provides Employment Services to unemployment and underemployment of people with disabilities and others with vocational barriers.Individuals receive the following supports:

Learning Center – UCP of Kansas partners with the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of KS to provide these services. Please contact us for more information.

Posture Seating Clinic – UCP of Kansas assists in underwriting and staffing a specialized Posture Seating Clinic for wheelchair users. The purpose of this clinic is to provide seating systems that may reduce the development of scoliosis or pressure sores. These systems also facilitate mobility and enhance comfort for persons who remain seated for prolonged periods.

Timbers – Independent Living – UCP of Kansas assists in providing support services (transportation and therapy) for the residents of the Timbers, an accessible housing project located in Wichita and administered by the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas.

Assistive Technology Services:
Dependent on the availability of funding, UCP of Kansas can sometimes assist families in purchasing various types of assistive technology. This includes items such as wheelchairs, seating systems, lifts, ramps, etc. Generally, financial aid will not exceed 50% of the total cost. Families are assisted in identifying other funding sources for which they might be eligible and are expected to utilize any insurance coverage that might be applicable.

Information & Referral – UCP of Kansas maintains a variety of books and pamphlets relative to cerebral palsy and available services in Kansas. These are provided at no cost to clients or their families. UCP staff is very familiar with service providers across Kansas and can often times assist families in identifying and accessing appropriate services.
