United Way of Long Island, together with our community partners, advances the common good by investing in and developing programs that address Long Islander's critical needs in education, income/financial stability and health.

United Way is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization run by an independent volunteer board of directors. We are one of Long Island’s most cost-efficient nonprofit organizations, with 88 cents of every dollar raised given directly to community partner or client support.  This exceeds the standard of 65 percent established by the Better Business Bureau. United Way of Long Island also has a four-star rating by Charity Navigator for its operational efficiency and received this honor for a second year in a row. Only 16% of the charities rated have received at least two consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that United Way of Long Island outperforms most other charities in America.

United Way of Long Island is working in partnership with the New York State Afterschool Network and other community organizations to promote and support quality afterschool programs, particularly those serving young people from underserved communities.

We offer an effective, efficient and caring way for Long Islanders to make the greatest year-round impact in their hometowns. These days, with so many choices to make with your charitable dollars, United Way of Long Island can be your partner to ensure your contribution improves people's lives in the communities where you live, work and play. Most importantly, donations made on Long Island, stay on Long Island.
