Welcome to the Department of Pediatrics.  Founded in 1943, we are the second largest department in the University Of Utah School Of Medicine, and one of the largest in the country.  We have more than 270 full-time faculty members with a fairly equal distribution of men and women, and over 400 staff members.  We support the retention and promotion of women and have the greatest number of tenured women faculty in the School of Medicine. We train more than 100 residents and fellows annually and approximately 60 family medicine residents on pediatric rotations. To ensure their success, the Department links pediatricians with effective mentors early in their careers, uses a loan repayment program to minimize the effects of educational debt, and cultivates a nurturing environment that promotes successful academic careers.

We are housed within University of Utah Health Sciences and at Primary Children’s Medical Center (PCMC), located on the Health Sciences campus. PCMC is the primary inpatient and outpatient specialty teaching site for our residency programs and the only tertiary care center in the Intermountain West serving Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and Montana.  US News and World Report recently ranked it as one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals, recognizing them nationally in 7 of 10 pediatric subspecialties.
