“WALK ON!” the rider says to horse with the leader and sidewalkers in step. “Walk On”, your legs using the horse’s gait, the horse’s muscles to make your muscles stronger, the warm body carrying you to new experiences. Riding the horse builds confidence, empowers the rider to reach new goals- physical, emotional, social, and spiritual… all with the quiet words of “WALK ON!”. This is the meaning and mission of Walk On Therapeutic Riding Programs, Inc. Along with fun and the enjoyment of of riding a horse, therapeutic riding and equine assisted activities have been shown to improve muscle tone, balance, posture, coordination and motor development. Walk On was established in 2001 and serves individuals with a disability to pursue an equine experience in a safe and fun manner. Walk On is a place where, through the bonding of horse, rider, and volunteers, the individual will enhance their mind, body, and spirit. The staff works closely with the medical community to better serve the riders and to ensure a safe and healthy riding program. Walk On Therapeutic Riding Programs, Inc. is a 501c 3 nonprofit organization and is overseen by a board of directors. Walk On Therapeutic Riding Programs are held at the Double K Acres Equestrian and Therapeutic Riding Center located in the beautiful Kinnickinnic River Valley northeast of River Falls, Wisconsin. Walk On Therapeutic Riding Programs, Inc. is under the direction of a PATH Registered Certified Instructor, and follows the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International guidelines. Walk On Therapeutic Riding Programs, Inc. and Double K Acres Equestrian and Therapeutic Riding Center are members of PATH International (formerly known as NARHA – The North American Riding For the Handicapped Association).
